AGENDA
ITEMS
Introductions
and updates:
Larry Brady indicated that the VA was expanding
services for Veteran housing and independent living. Anyone having
someone in need of services can contact the VA or call Larry.
Mike Webber advised that Probation and Parole are
in the process of finishing training for staff on the Transitional
Accountability Plan (TAP) in identifying goal areas for those coming
from the institution and those under community supervision. The training
has also occurred for the Institutional Staff in the THUs and the
Treatment Centers.
Stan Landon reported that approval has been given
to fill staff positions in Algoa, Boonville and Tipton. This should help
in establishing the plans for transition to the community.
Marta Nolin indicated that the Maryville Treatment
Center would be expanding capacity to address substance abuse issues and
that 2 ES/LS (Employment /Life Skill) positions have been added.
Teddi Samuels is
working with a project called Circles that helps target families
trying to move from poverty.
Steering
Committee Roles:
A handout of the BCOTN Organizational Structure was
reviewed. The general thought was that the three items listed as
Scope for the Steering Committee would evolve and would serve as
a starting point. The items would serve as a guide.
The Steering
Committee would be the guiding counsel for activities and projects
involving BCOTN.
The Steering Committee would present
updates to General Membership at quarterly meetings.
The Committee should be able to
represent BCOTN at public forums.
Organizational Chart:
The handout will be attached to these minutes. As
the meeting was limited in attendance, the group elected to break into
initial groups to exchange email and phone number information. It was
discussed that members may be interested in different projects in
different subcommittees. Depending on the meeting times of the
respective subcommittees, members could attend multiple project groups.
Prior to the initial meetings of the subcommittees,
the volunteer chairs will meet to outline what common information is
needed and what would be the initial agenda items. A common start would
be the charter, the goals and objectives and the values. Initial meeting
of the Steering group will be December 10 th .
Following that meeting,
n
Subcommittees will send out a meeting schedule to those
indicating an interest in a particular area to work on.
n
A second Co- chair will be established to report to
Steering Group and to membership at general meetings.
n
Project ideas will be evaluated and data requested if
needed.
